Low friction coatings
Low friction coatings give surfaces extra ‘slip’ to reduce friction that is caused by products moving over machinery operating up to 280 ͦc.
Low Friction Coatings
Low friction coatings reduce the coefficient of friction between two surfaces, enabling machinery and products to move with ease. Such coatings prevent product from getting scratched and machinery getting worn out. Plus they reduce heat that would otherwise be generated through the build-up of friction. They can also help with cleanliness and reduce downtime.
Our low friction coatings are dry lubricants so they deliver cleaner and more efficient working solutions than greases, oils and traditional lubricants. With a coat thickness of only 10-20 microns they are suitable for tight tolerance parts and are durable and long-lasting.
Note that low-friction coatings do not necessarily have any non-stick properties. You may notice some non-stick as a byproduct, but the two terms are not interchangeable.

Materials We Use
A common fluoropolymer used for low friction is PTFE. With a coating thickness typically less than 30 microns, it is one of the harder wearing fluoropolymers and has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +260°C.
Common Uses for Low Friction Coating
- Rubber O Rings
- Saw Blades
- Dog Combs
- Chutes
Low friction coatings are used for conveying products such as steel, food, non-woven materials and paper. Marcote offers fluoropolymers as low friction coatings as they have an inherently low coefficient of friction. Note though that even within the fluoropolymer family there are different performance levels. Fortunately, Marcote has decades of experience so will be able to advise you as to the best coating solution.
Low friction coatings can be applied to a variety of substrates, from metals through composites to rubber. The substrate will influence the coating choice so it is important we have as much information on your process as possible. In some cases, we might also be able to add abrasion resistance, non-stick, chemical resistance and corrosion resistance properties to the coating solution.
